The wedding celebration has come and gone, and while it was unforgettable, Axl didn't show. (Given that on the same night he couldn't perform at Wembley Stadium, we wouldn't have had Axl on top of his game anyhow.)

However, I HAVE obtained tickets to the recently announced GNR show in San Francisco at the Warfield on September 20. Axl, if I can repurpose one of your lines: "You Will Be Mine!"

I may post an update from the show, but otherwise THAT'S IT for the blog. Many thanks for your virtual signatures, compelling emails to Axl's management, and deeply felt urges of support.

That was pretty awesome of Axl to do -- just think how much cooler it would be for him to perform at a fan's wedding who held tickets to TWO concerts in 2002 that were cancelled (Sacramento and San Jose). Redemption, increased coolness and record sales -- what's not to love?

Heck, at my wedding Axl doesn't even need to bring the other Gunners; we'll already have a reggae band and Axl can do a little Marley. We'll leave the keyboards open. July 29 -- hope he can make it. (Axl's scheduled to be out of the country, I hear, but schedules change,
especially when they're attached to Guns N Roses...)

Thanks for your prompt and courteous response. I ask that Axl please reconsider his travel plans (besides, can you ever remember a Guns N Roses tour that went perfectly on schedule?) and wish him the best of luck with the tour. While I may not be able to make the NYC shows, I have plenty of operatives who will be there cheering him on.

Again, nothing would be more fantastic than Axl leading the way at our wedding party. A performance by the Axe would be among the best publicity moves in history and an unforgettable experience for everyone. I do hope Team Rose reconsiders.

I'm writing again to ask Axl Rose to perform at my wedding celebration.

I realize Axl is a busy guy in the next few months – I’ve read about fresh Guns N’ Roses tour dates in New York to Europe, and the accompanying rehearsing and planning will be a lot of work I’m sure. Frankly, I’m excited about it, and I hope to see the new album soon (as well as tour dates in San Francisco!). But on another level of excitement, far above tingling anticipation on a level more like full-fledged, unadulterated craving, I really really really really hope that Axl can swing by my wedding celebration on July 29 in Napa.

Again, this would be a PR coup for Axl. Playing my wedding celebration not only would be extremely cool, but it would be something the millions of Axl fans out there could relate to. Many of them, like me, grew up with Axl; many of them, like me, are now moving on to the point of women-marrying and family-beginning, and reading about Axl showing up to a fan’s wedding (or watching the related MTV special) might very well touch them in that sensitive, manager’s dream area where they’ll immediately want to go out and buy the new album, concert tickets, and plenty of concessions in support of such a cool customer.

I have good news to report on the music situation at my wedding celebration: we WILL have a reggae band! Joselito Manekin, my roommate from my semester in Spain way back in 2000, is now the keyboardist on a DC-area reggae band called John Stone (http://www.johnstonereggae.com). Of course, they’re more than willing to share the stage with Axl, or clear off altogether if Axl brings the rest of GNR to the party. I’ve seen Axl get reggaelicious on “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” in those concert movies in Japan; maybe he could reggaefy some of the new material? Either way, it should be a blast.

Finally, I went ahead and downloaded the “Welcome to the Jungle” ringtone for my phone. Just imagine: I’m sitting at work when the phone rings “Welcome to the Jungle” and it’s Axl, offering to play my wedding celebration. Does life get any better?

I’m writing again to ask Axl Rose to perform at my wedding celebration.

As you’ve probably noticed, this is the sixth letter I’ve sent making this request. It is an ambitious request, almost outlandish, but in the end it is awesome and doable. Axl Rose at a wedding. What kind of guy would try to do that—and what kind of mega rock star would comply? Cool ones, both; with a manager unafraid to challenge the traditional thinking on performance venues and willing to make things happen.

Each of my previous letters was addressed to Axl “c/o” you. Sadly, my last letter (dated March 30, 2006) was returned to me with no explanation. I suspect that someone in your organization may have decided that I am an annoyance, a pest, or even a threat. That’s a shame; nothing could be further from the truth.

I don’t want to bother Axl. I don’t want to bother you. I definitely don’t want to hurt anybody (except the occasional bad guy, and even in those cases I support prison time over capital punishment). All I want is for Axl Rose to perform at my wedding celebration this July. He doesn’t even have to go on for long, just a few songs (ideally including “Patience,” “Welcome to the Jungle,” “Civil War,” and “Rocket Queen.” I can’t think of a better way to begin a new life with my wife, and I hope you agree.

There’s been an update on the event music situation! My former roommate from my semester in Sevilla, Spain–Joe “José” Manekin—may be able to fly his reggae band out to the wedding celebration. You can read more about the band at http://www.johnstonemusic.com. They do the reggae roots thing quite well, and let’s face it, nothing says summer party like some SoCa beats. Unless of course it’s you and the rest of Guns N’ Roses ripping down the chandelier!

I was thinking, if we can line up both you AND John Stone (hey, I’m an optimist), you guys should definitely do a few songs together. I’ve seen those old live videos of “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” where you guys break it down Kingston style for a minute or so, and it’s extremely cool. Then, once you’ve eased into the pool with some laid back Marley covers, you can turn on the afterburners and rock your brains out.

Believe it or not, Axl, we’ve got a lot in common. We’re both redheads, we’ve both experimented with dreadlocks, we’ve both been vocalists in bands (ask me to tell you about The Y-Bomb sometime, our college band. Wow!). We’ve both got a temper. We’re both passionate individuals who require creative fuel to live. We’ve both married gorgeous brunettes. We’ve both won Grammy awards. JUST KIDDING! Only YOU’VE won a Grammy award. Just checking to make sure you’re paying attention. Seriously though, we hold a lot of shared personality traits that would make your performance a ton of fun. If you don’t believe me, just give me a call and we’ll go for beers.

Axl, your performance at our wedding celebration would be one of the greatest experiences of our lives, with or without John Stone. I very much hope you can make it.

I’m writing again to ask you to perform at my wedding celebration.

First the good news: we’ve secured a location for the bash! Sweeping views of Napa Valley, a pool, hot tub, and did I mention the views? The place is twenty minutes up a private road, which means we can keep out the paparazzi. There are some great balconies too; I was thinking we could put you and the band up on the top balcony for a truly a fantastic show. I’d suggest bringing along a camera crew as well; this screams MTV special.

I thought I’d fill you in a little more on our romance—heck, maybe you could even write a song about it for the party. I was in the Peace Corps in Guyana, a country most famous for the Jonestown mass suicide, and Karla was living in Seattle. By all rational accounts, our relationship (which was built on a two-week fling in the party-happy end-of-college period) should have disintegrated. But we wrote letters. And when you’re living in a remote area tucked away from civilization, largely forgotten by your friends and extremely lonely, getting thoughtful letters in the mail from a hot babe is like receiving a bar of gold. Long story short, I left Guyana early and moved to Seattle to be with her. We’ve been together ever since.

Incidentally, I’ve noticed the spat between you and Scott Weiland in the news lately. A word of advice, Axl: don’t go down to Scott Weiland’s level. He’s a drug-fiend with a mediocre voice and maybe three songs I can still remember. You’re Axl Rose, ass-kicker extraordinaire!

Dear Axl,

I’m writing again to ask you to perform at my wedding celebration.

Just yesterday the missus and I went up to Napa and Sonoma to scout out locations for the party. We checked out two pretty sweet pads, but they had flaws too. The first place was spacious and open with rows of grapevines, a nice (if small) pool, a barbecue area, and even a small pond with an island. However, it’s right by the main road leading into Sonoma, and the last thing we want is the hum of passing traffic interfering with top-shelf rock n’ roll. The other place was more secluded, up in the Napa hills on a private road with a stunning view of Napa Valley. Unfortunately, it was a little too hilly and hard to get around (we have to consider grandma) and there isn’t really a good location for everyone to congregate in one area and do some headbanging. Unless you count the tennis court, which seemed a little cheesy.

So the hunt continues! If you have any special requests for our wedding, such as a huge stage, professional sound system, a trailer stocked with tequila, etc, please let us know sooner rather than later and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

Turning to Guns N’ Roses news, I want to congratulate you on setting some June tour dates for Guns N’ Roses in Europe. It’ll be great to get the band out on the road, hear the new material, see you fans, and knock off the rust. The timing couldn’t be better—by the time you finish up abroad, your chops should be warmed up and ready to truly blow the roof off our wedding celebrations (scheduled for late July)! Also, it’ll be a perfect time to release the new album: I’ve heard autographed CDs make excellent wedding presents.

Unfortunately, I haven’t heard from you lately, although I’ve been keeping track of your activities via the news and a few online chat groups. Your 44^th birthday party looked like a blast (you have my belated best wishes!) as well as your recent trip to a Victoria Secret party (hey, how could that NOT be fun?). Along with my wife, family, and friends, I earnestly hope you’ll consider our request to perform at our wedding celebration and make our party one for the ages.

Dear Axl,

I’m writing again to ask you to perform at my wedding celebration.

It’s been a busy ten days for the movement. So far I have 169 signatures on the petition supporting you performing at my wedding, available online at http://getaxlforourwedding.blogspot.com. I’ve learned a few things from this experience. One, you’re still a popular guy the world over. Two, the ladies think you’re hot!

I’d like to give you a little more background about myself and my wife. We met for the first time when she was climbing down a ladder at her apartment building in college, which was on fire at the time. I said hello; she was shaken and understandably didn’t say much back to me. We met again at a bar a few weeks later, when I spotted her drinking a beer from her purse, that she’d apparently smuggled into the bar. I mean, who does that? (Answer: Canadians who want their Labatt Blue.) For the rest of the week, we spent as much time together as possible, slept extremely little, and along the way graduated from college. The following week, Karla came to visit me in Washington, DC, (my hometown) and we had a quick jaunt to Ocean City, Maryland, where I sold her my car (literally). The next week I joined the Peace Corps in Guyana, South America. I thought I’d never see her again, that we had our fling and that was that. Obviously, it didn’t end up that way! Again, Axl, it’d be fantastic if you could perform at our wedding celebration. I think you might consider it a practice gig for Chinese Democracy tunes, a place to go off the beaten path musically a bit (maybe play some of your favorite covers?) while making a memorable experience in some of your top fans’ lives. Performing at our wedding celebration certainly shouldn’t indicate or imply that you’ve been relegated to a wedding act—everybody knows you’re a superstar. Instead, it would be a deeply cool, meaningful thing to do, and I very much hope that you decide to join us.

What Would Axl Sing First?

At wedding celebrations, the first dance of the night undertaken by freshly minted wife and husband is traditionally conducted to the tune of a romantic, lovey-dovey, and often overplayed song. I think of Wonderful Tonight or Unchained Melody--something a little cheesy but that, deep down, everybody kind of likes.

Which begs the question: What Would Axl Sing First? (WWASF?)

Any Axl performance should, by law, begin with Welcome to the Jungle. There's no better greeting to an evening of ass-kicking rock n roll. However, these unique matrimonial circumstances call for a slow love song. The obvious top GNR options are Patience and Don't Cry, with the slight edge going to Patience due to the awesome section at the end (I've been walking these streets at night...).

But what about one of the new songs from Chinese Democracy? That'd be a pretty amazing way to kick off a lifetime of love. What about--gasp--a cover? Axl's done it before and he'll do it again.

I Will Always Love You (Whitney or Dolly)? Love of A Lifetime (Firehouse)? Take My Breath Away (Top Gun)?

Dear Axl,

I’m writing to ask you to perform at my wedding.

I realize this is an audacious request. You’re reclusive, you’re loaded, and you could fill up Madison Square Garden tomorrow. You’re at work on “Chinese Democracy,” your new album, which is reportedly the most expensive album ever made. So why should you go out of your way to perform at some annoying fan’s wedding?

I’m a lifelong Guns ‘N Roses fan. I listened to dubbed versions of the Use Your Illusion tapes on the bus in middle school, when my parents wouldn’t let me buy the store versions because they had the Parental Advisory sticker on them. I’ve bought every album Guns N’ Roses has ever put out, including The Spaghetti Incident. I consider “Get in the Ring” one of the greatest pump-up songs of all time, “Breakdown” one of the most underrated songs of all-time, “Mama Kin” (your version) one of the best rock-out songs of all time.

And also, Axl, I’ve paid my dues. I had tickets to see Guns N’ Roses perform in San Jose and Sacramento at New Years in 2002, but the tour was canceled and I was left out to dry. A lot of your fans were left out to dry—one of my best friends was at the Philadelphia show where you didn’t come out and had to wade through a riot to get home. We hear snippets about a new album, a song on the Da Vinci Code soundtrack, performances in Vegas and Brazil, but mostly we feel ignored. We’re here when you want us, screwed when you don’t.

Honestly, that’s fine. It’s your life. But would there be a better way for you to jumpstart the new incarnation of Guns N’ Roses than by performing at a fan’s wedding, taking a dance or two with grandma, drinking a couple glasses of champagne, and vanishing into the night? It would pretty much be the greatest PR move in the history of civilization, and would immediately endear you and the band to millions of fans. Especially me. It’s not a conventional approach, but it’ll sell a lot of records, and be an infinitely cool thing to do.
